I see a convenient use for this even on regular VM's. If you have any questions about how it's coded or need any help with it just let me know. Just this weekend I took the opportunity to upgrade my host to Mavericks and the biggest problem I had was related to Mavericks not displaying much screen resolution options. Instead of the normal 10 choices or so, there was now only 3 options per screen. The "one size fits all" approach I guess, but it didn't fit me. Display resolution problem on all guests.

How to enable Fullscreen on macOS 10.12 Sierra - VMWare

Turns out that Darius had to point out to me that holding down the option key while selecting "scaled" displays all the other choices. Selecting then, without the option key hold down, does change the display to what you selected. The only thing is does is present the Detect Displays button and selecting it does nothing in a OS X While it's reasonable to assume some of the blame is on Apple it is also reasonable to assume some of the blame is on VMware as well since it isn't providing the expected behavior of a Physical Machine.

Regardless of who's to blame I certainly do not what to have to drag the Virtual Machine's windows to try and get the standard resolution values besides the default x and thus the AppleScript workaround is what I came up with. I do not yet have a mavericks guest down here, so cannot verify yet for myself to see what happens.

Fix Screen Resolution Problem in OS X Mavericks

VMware released VMware Fusion 6. So if one wants standardized resolutions without having to try getting them by manually dragging the window to fit then this script remains a viable workaround. Next, at the end of the code, type your own screen resolution instead of HxV. All done, now just play the macOS Virtual Machine to check if it worked or not. Go to About This Mac then click on Displays next to overview tab to check it. The step below has been proven to work because we have received lots of feedback from our visitors saying that this method worked for them. To avoid any error make sure you replaced the accurate name of your virtual machine in the code Step 2.
